Behind the Writer
Heather Grant is a poet and a teacher.
She grew up in a Foreign Service family and spent the early years of her life in Ethiopia, Washington, DC, Germany, and Australia. When her father retired, the Anderson family settled in Reston, VA. Heather went to Herndon High School and published her first poem in the high school journal. Upon graduation, she attended Georgetown University where she majored in International Affairs. She took poetry workshops, studying with Gary Sange and Roland Flint. After marrying in Seattle, Heather and Web lived in the West— Phoenix, Chicago, Honolulu, Rancho Santa Margarita. During that time, they bore three beautiful children. Heather wrote poetry of her experiences in nature in these different landscapes. When Heather and her family returned to Virginia, she went to graduate school, receiving an M.Ed. from the University of Virginia, and became an ESL teacher. She continues to write poetry inspired by the natural world. Heather lives in Falls Church, Virginia with her jazz drummer husband Web.
